    Kimberley Cattle Station Experience

    Day 1 Sunday

    Kimberley Cattle Station Experience, Derby

An early morning start sees us travelling through the remote and beautiful landscape of the Western Kimberley, learning of local history, people and the environment as we cross the mighty Fitzroy River. We continue on to the famous Boab Prison Tree prior to arriving in the township of Derby located on the tidal mud flats on the edge of the King Sound known for having the highest tidal range of any port in Australia where we have the chance to visit an Aboriginal Art Galley and meet the artists. Heading back to Yeeda Pastoral Company we gain an insight into the day-to-day life on a working cattle station in the Kimberley on a guided tour of the property. Travel along station tracks, through vast paddocks, via cattle watering points and station yards. Take in the millions of acres, catch stockmen at work, and see cattle grazing and wildlife. We learn about the history of the station that goes back to the 1800’s and about how Yeeda came to be one of the most progressive pastoral companies in the Kimberley. This evening we enjoy a delicious long table dinner of Yeeda Beef at the station homestead in evocative outback surroundings before to retiring to our comfortable accommodation in stylish en-suited Eco Tents.

    Windjana Gorge

    Day 2 Monday

    Windjana Gorge, Tunnel Creek

After a hearty station breakfast we commence our journey on the remote cattle track, the Gibb River Road towards the Napier Range. Once a Devonian reef, these escarpments are over 350 million years old and home to a diverse array of animals and plants. The perfect place to experience the stunning natural beauty of an outback oasis is the 3.5km geological wonder of Windjana Gorge and then exploring Tunnel Creek, a 750-metre cave system carved through the Range, in which we discover stalactites, secret caves and a variety of wildlife. It is here we also learn the legend of Jandamarra, an Aboriginal freedom fighter who used the tunnel as a hide out in the late 1800’s. As the sun sets we journey through the Oscar Ranges and groves of majestic Boab trees returning to Broome late in the afternoon.

    Beagle Bay

    Day 4 Wednesday

Beagle Bay, Pearl Farm, Sunset Boat Cruise

Departing Broome early this morning, we journey up the spectacular Dampier Peninsula, also known as ‘Dampier Land’. Largely Aboriginal-owned land, the Dampier is a delight for travellers seeking a Kimberley experience that is culturally rewarding in a beautiful environment. Travelling up the red ‘pindan’ 4WD track, we hear about the peninsula’s fascinating place in Australia’s history from our guided commentary. Our first stop is the Beagle Bay Aboriginal Community, home of the Beagle Bay Church and its glimmering pearl shell altar, where we enjoy morning tea. Arriving at beautiful Kooljaman on the tip of Cape Leveque we have time to swim and beachcomb on the pristine beach. After lunch we journey across to Cygnet Bay where we join a fascinating Pearl Farm Tour learning about the world’s largest and most beautiful pearls that have been farmed in these waters for generations by the family owned business. Later this afternoon we take to the waters on a sunset cruise in the picturesque Buccaneer Archipelago.
